THE BRIDE TRIBE
What to do after accepting a BRIDESMAID proposal
Being asked to be a bridesmaid is a huge honor but it also comes with a fairly long list of responsibilities.
Every bride is a little different and might have different expectations (that you’ll need to communicate clearly!), but here are some of the most common bridesmaid duties that can be reasonably anticipated.
BEFORE THE WEDDING
• Be a sounding board for ideas
• Make yourself available for wedding dress shopping and fittings where possible
• Help plan and organize the bridal shower and bachelorette party
• Buy your own bridesmaid dress, shoes and accessories
• Book travel and hotel reservations
• Help with wedding planning tasks (DIY projects, errands, etc.)
• Help support the bride emotionally
• Attend the wedding rehearsal and dinner
• Get along with the bridal party and families
• Buy a wedding present
AT THE WEDDING
• Help the bride get dressed
• Provide getting-ready snacks
• Help keep the bride calm and happy
• Assist the maid of honor with any last-minute tasks
• Participate in the ceremony
• Be there for emotional support
• Help bride throughout the day with whatever she needs
• Be on the dance floor
• Mingle with guests (and be the life of the party)
• Give a speech, if asked
• Help send off newlyweds
