Michon and Arthur celebrated their big day in culturally infused style at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. “(We) are Athabascan, so there was a lot of drumming and singing,” says Michon. “We got married in our Athabascan regalia and many of our decorations were handmade Alaska Native artwork.” The bride even beaded all of the wedding party moccasins. One of their most memorable moments of the day was complete spontaneity. After their post-ceremony portrait time, the newlyweds walked back to their cocktail hour to find Arthur’s friends, who are Athabascan drummers, putting on a show. “Arthur and I did an impromptu Athabascan dance in front of all of the guests,” she says. “It was such a surprise and wonderful way to be welcomed back for the reception.”
