Bride’s name: Laurel Hess

Groom’s name: Parker Flaming

Occupations: Laurel is a receptionist and Parker is a hospital patient care assistant.

How they met: “We met at church and went to high school together. We hit it off after our first date walking around Thunderbird Falls!”

The proposal: “Parker planned for us to go on a three-day backpacking trip to Eagle and Symphony Lakes in Eagle River with some family and friends. He proposed on the top of a mountain overlooking the lakes. It was a total surprise, and we ended up with amazing pictures!”

Number of guests: 175

Wedding colors: Gray-blue and dusty rose

Most memorable moment…

For her: “I remember how loving and supportive everyone was! Everyone had a kind word or a hug and it really made the day extra special.”

For him: “The huge amount of anticipation before the ceremony, and greeting all of the guests that came to celebrate with us.”

Funniest moment: “The decorating of Parker’s truck! Everything had been painted, down to the rims on his tires, and we could barely fit into the seats with all of the balloons. It took us months to get rid of them all.”

Unique aspects of the day: “A special aspect of our day to us was that our officiant was Laurel’s grandfather, who also did her parent’s wedding when they got married!” The couple also loved the sockeye salmon groom’s cake and the fun atmosphere of their venue.

Three words that best describe their day: “Personal, celebrative and unforgettable.”

If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: “We would spend more time eating our beautiful wedding cake. Thankfully someone saved us a piece, but it felt like we were whisked away so quickly after the cake-cutting!"

What Laurel loves most about her husband: “I love his willingness to put me first all of the time! Even when it’s down to the last bite of Ben and Jerry’s.”

What Parker loves most about his wife: “Her love for God and others.”

Best advice for a couple planning a wedding: “Definitely focus on the big picture. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you’re married! Nobody attending your wedding will remember any of the things that go wrong, and neither will you.”
