Bride’s name: Joana Everett

Groom’s name: Kurt Iversen

Occupations: Joana and Kurt are US Air Force officers.

How they met: “We were assigned to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and worked in the same unit.”

The proposal: “We went for a hike at Eklutna Lake, a favorite spot of ours for hiking together. About two miles down the trail, he suggested that we take a break, so we walked to the bank of the lake and he proposed there.”

Number of guests: 50

Wedding colors: Teal and silver/grey

Most memorable moment…

For her: “During the ceremony, sitting in the sanctuary holding my soon-to-be husband’s hand, looking out on the faces of our family and friends. I could see and feel all the love and support they had for us in that moment, and it took my breath away to know how blessed we are.”

For him: “Gathering our families and all of our Alaska friends and loved ones together at the same time, to celebrate our love.”

Funniest moment: “We wanted photos with Alaska landscape in them, so we did a 'first look' at Beluga Point, prior to the ceremony, and it was super windy. When we got to the church, my bridesmaids had to re-curl my hair in the choir loft before the ceremony.”

Unique aspects of the day: “There were many touches that incorporated our love of Alaska. The cake had mountains, a glacier and glacial lake, and a meadow with fireweed. The teal in the bridesmaids’ dresses and the table linens were meant to be the color of Eklutna Lake, where we got engaged.”

Three words that best describe their day: "Breathtaking, joyful and fulfilling."

If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: “We would probably try to start planning earlier, so it would be a little less stressful.”

What Joana loves most about her husband: “I love the way he loves me, in everything that he does, every day.”

What Kurt loves most about his wife: “I love how big-hearted she is; she loves with her whole heart, and it’s beautiful to see and feel.”

Best advice for a couple planning a wedding: “Keep it simple. Share with one another what is most important to each of you, and focus your energy and effort on those things. Also, remember to sit back and truly enjoy the day. It goes by so fast!”
